Louisville, Kentucky, October 5, 2025 (U.S. Time) — Coinciding with China’s traditional Mid-Autumn Festival (October 6 in China), the Kentuckiana Chinese School (KCS) joined over 300 local Chinese families and friends at Tom Sawyer Park to celebrate this cherished holiday — a festival that has symbolized reunion, togetherness, and the pursuit of a beautiful life for thousands of years in Chinese culture.

1. Preparations
Early in the morning, former KCS principal Ms. Lu Liu, together with volunteers from the Louisville Chinese Association, arrived to set up the venue — pitching tents, arranging chairs, and decorating the event area.

Financial Support
Generous sponsors made this celebration possible, including Mr. Jason Xu (Sunshine Realty), Ms. Shan Li (New York Life Insurance), Ms. Xing Lin (Mortgage Broker), Ms. Jing Lin (Cabinet Business Owner), Ms. Karen Zhang (Insurance Agent), the Louisville Chinese Association, and King Buffet restaurant.

Food Sponsors
Four Chinese restaurants — Jade Palace, Jasmine, Chinese Gourmet Express, and Max Orient — donated delicious dishes for the event. Viet Hoa Supermarket sponsored traditional mooncakes, White Rabbit candies, and assorted snacks, adding sweetness to the celebration.

Homemade Mooncakes
Several families brought freshly handmade mooncakes. KCS Board Member Ms. Bei Bei lovingly prepared 250 mooncakes in various flavors, including chocolate and five-nut varieties. She also contributed a large platter of cold appetizers and a savory shredded chicken dish. Her dedication and generosity deeply touched everyone present.

2. Community Luncheon
Since the Mid-Autumn Festival fell on a Sunday, KCS scheduled the luncheon for 12:45 PM to allow local families to attend church services beforehand. In today’s material world, sharing a meal is more than just dining — it’s a way to connect. Families and friends gathered around tables, chatting about life, work, and children, finding warmth and joy in community.
Through this shared meal, middle and high school students volunteered their time to serve the community, fostering friendship and teamwork among peers.Children, meanwhile, played and laughed together, creating colorful memories of childhood joy and togetherness.

3. Mooncake-Making Workshop
To honor tradition, KCS organized a hands-on mooncake-making activity.Ms. Ming Wu brought mooncake ingredients, including dough, glutinous rice flour, and sugar, as well as all the necessary tools, to demonstrate the process. She thoughtfully designed illustrated recipe booklets detailing each step and key tips, allowing participants to follow along as they crafted their own mooncakes. This became one of the most popular activities of the day — a delightful blend of learning and fun for both children and adults.

4. Kite Painting and Flying
Another highlight for the children was the kite activity. With help from student volunteers, kids painted and colored their own kites, decorating them with dreams and favorite colors. Afterward, they proudly flew their creations into the blue sky with their parents — a joyful and meaningful experience that symbolized hope and freedom.
5. Soccer Fun
KCS also surprised the children with a giant inflatable soccer ball, which brought laughter and excitement to the park. Later, a professional soccer coach led a soccer training session, allowing kids to learn skills while enjoying teamwork and exercise.
6. “Pass the Flower” Game and Performances
The afternoon continued with the lively “Pass the Flower” game. According to the rules, when the music stopped, whoever held the flower performed a short act — some introduced themselves, others sang songs or recited Tang poems.Little Ningning Yu even performed a beautiful guitar piece for everyone.KCS prepared small gifts and plenty of candy for each child, ensuring that every young participant left with smiles and happy memories.
A Festival of Reunion and Gratitude
Far from home, on this bright and breezy autumn Sunday in the United States, the Kentuckiana Chinese School succeeded in bringing families and friends together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival — a true moment of reunion and cultural connection.
As lanterns glowed and laughter filled the air, participants shared not only food and music but also a profound sense of belonging.KCS looks forward to continuing this beautiful tradition next year, hoping that everyone will gather once again in joy and harmony.
